What’s up friends,
I’m here to relieve you from the suspense of the cliffhanger from my second post - I did end up selling my awful lawn mower. I sold it for $60, but I only paid $50. Sucker. (I delivered it to the Sucker’s house in Belle Meade, he’ll be ok.)
I watched the movie Tokyo Story after reading everything I could about the movie Perfect Days which I watched a few weeks ago. Because that’s the move, you watch the thing and find the book that inspired the thing, so you read that book and discover the album that inspired the thing, so you buy that album. It’s the best. If you like watching decaying family relationships under a very old microscope for two hours, go off man.
The art in the art in the art. Since the Olympics are in full swing in FRANCE, I'll share some cool French music to the stack. A few years ago my dear friend Dylan showed me this great 1989 album “Borderline” by a relatively unknown FRENCH band Asylum Party. It pretty much immediately it sunk IN.
It’s only streaming on Soundcloud, or YouTube which is really annoying for listening to music because you have to leave your phone screen open the whole time. It’s almost impossible to find physical copies, and of course, there’s very little information about the band out there (though I did find the supposed producer, this Belgian guy LUC TYTGAT on Facebook and added him, to no response. This may have been a weird move. Sorry LUC, but your bass tones rip.) It sounds great, the songs all sort of mesh together and make a unified thing, it’s pretty dark but also polished and bright - I love it. I particularly loved the drum machine, so huge and full. Luckily, Reddit will save us all and I was able to find a thread where someone revealed it was most likely a Roland R-8, which I already had samples for but never used.
The other night I found the samples, made a dumb lil beat, added a teeny bit of distortion, and almost immediately made this demo I feel happy with. I have a massive backlog of demos and sketches, and this one seems to have moved into the “worth it to finish aka add vocals” category - just trying to see where it fits into my music projects, plans, etc. This all serves as a reminder to listen, research, and be curious - it always gets me unstuck.
Have a listen! (Working title: Sidewinder)
Also - we got some great feedback over here at Late To The Party Enterprises. Thanks for reading friends.

I love finding the thing behind the thing behind the thing!
Hahahaha sorry LUC
