What’s up friends,
Summer in Nashville is cruising on at full speed. It’s hot and muggy and every time I go outside I can’t see anything because my glasses fog up. I bought the worlds WORST electric lawn mower on Facebook in hopes to keep my garden rows somewhat tame, but now I'm just $50 in the hole and I can’t mow anything for more than literally 3-4 minutes. It’s probably not that bad I just have the wrong battery pack thing.
In other boring but also exciting news, I’m expecting to get my mini-split HVAC unit installed in my studio this week. I’ve been renovating the inside of a new shed building since October to soon become my “work space”. This will be the last piece of a long, but ultimately fulfilling puzzle. I’m proud of the work we did. I don’t ever want to do it again.
(really digging this temporary portable setup though. less is always more fun.)
In a lot of ways I’ve gravitated towards music that commands attention, that normally isn’t suited for “background” listening - striking songs perhaps. But as I get older and spend more time in the house amongst the chaos of children, I’ve been noticing a difference in what I want to hear. I NEED calm these days I think - and it’s probably never felt totally right to throw on loud rock records on the turntable for dinner. Gotta set the vibe. I made a playlist of specifically calm, sunset tunes for house tasks, dinner, wine and couch time, plants, and nice lighting. It’s called “Vacay Night”. To me, it sounds like the hangs at the house after the beach day. Pizza, music, windows open, you get it. It has lots of Mac Demarco, as I’ve recently discovered I actually really enjoy - I remember when he was blowing up like 10 years ago and for some reason I didn’t care, but now I really love the relaxing sonic world he lives in. And I’m a sucker for anything self or home recorded, DIY. If I’m missing any calm, syrupy jams, please let me know.
Cheers pals,
